Using nostalgic spaces is a method often favored in real estate investments both by the public and the private sector. Forms belonging to historical settlements are now commonplace not only in public buildings such as schools, hospitals and administrative buildings with, for instance, “Seljuq or Ottoman-style” façades demanded explicitly by public authorities but also in mass housing projects implemented by the private sector. It is claimed that such an approach is demanded largely by the society and is helpful in selling products faster and at a higher price as well. Why do people demand spaces that look as if they were historical? What does the “illusion” created by these settlements tell us in terms of urban space?
